The Federation Council approved on 22 November 2017 the draft Federal Law amending the Federal Law "On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection" and the Law of the Russian Federation "On Mass Media" for the purposes of the regulation of foreign media in Russia.
Foreign media can be recognised as fulfilling the functions of a foreign agent if they receive money and (or) other property from foreign states, their state bodies, international and foreign organisations, foreign citizens, stateless persons or persons authorised by them and / or from Russian legal entities financed by the above.
In addition, the procedure for the blocking of information resources published in Russia and / or distributed by a foreign or international non-governmental organisation whose activities are considered undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation has been simplified.
