On March 29, 2020, first hearing was held by the Parliament of Azerbaijan on draft amendments law to the Law "On medical insurance". The draft law provides the extension of the period of full implementation of mandatory medical insurance ("MMI") in the country.
According to the amendments, the full implementation of MMI in the country is postponed until 2021. Before, it was planned to complete the implementation of MMI in Azerbaijan in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Payments for MMI, which should have been withheld as of April 1, 2020 from employees of the private and public sector, will be withheld starting from January 1, 2021.
All other persons, who have to pay 48% of the minimum wage on the MMI as of 2023, will make these payments from January 1, 2024.
In addition, 50% discount for private and non-oil sector benefits (1% of wages instead of 2% during 2020) has been extended until the end of 2021, pursuant to the amendments.
The draft law will enter into force upon its signing by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
