President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures to introduce modern methods of labeling certain types of goods”.

The resolution said that comprehensive measures are being taken in the field of consumer protection, including the purchase of products of good quality, safe for life and health, as well as to obtain reliable information about products and their manufacturers.

At the same time, there is a tendency to increase the volume of illegal, poor-quality, counterfeit and falsified products, which is detrimental to the life and health of citizens, leads to unhealthy competition and losses to the State budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and also creates conditions for the manifestation of corruption and other offenses.

The document was adopted in order to prevent the illegal importation into the republic, the production and sale of certain types of goods, to ensure their effective accounting, as well as to increase the collection of taxes and other obligatory payments.

Starting from the date of the introduction of compulsory marking, it is prohibited to sell the goods specified in the resolution on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan without marking.

The sale of goods, included in the List of groups of goods subject to mandatory labeling, is allowed without labeling within 180 days from the date of the inclusion of such goods in the specified list, the resolution says.

The acquisition of labeling services for goods specified in the annex to this resolution, including excisable ones, is carried out by business entities at their own expense directly from a single labeling service provider.

The National Agency for Project Management under the President of Uzbekistan has been instructed to ensure, by 1 February 2019, selection based on the best offers of a labeling service provider with practical experience, ensuring a high level of security, reliability and quality of services provided, conducting negotiations with the selected supplier prevent a substantial increase in the value of goods subject to mandatory labeling, as well as conclude an agreement with it for a period of 5 to 10 years with fixation of the cost of services for the entire period of the contract.
